    The performance of solvent-based adhesives is essentially determined by the polymer system in the formulation. Picking out backing type will depend on the actual substrates and environmental resistance needed - temperature resistance, essential oil and plasticizer resistance, and so forth. Coating both substrates and waiting until the adhesive sets before relationship typically provides the best initial bond strength with longest open time. In the event assembly and processing requires extending open time or very high initial power, the adhesive can be coated and dried then activated by spraying, scrubbing, or rolling with a light coat of solvent to develop surface add on the adhesive. Solvent based adhesives remain solucionable in organic and natural solvent after drying. This reduces the need for equipment maintenance and facilitates clean-up. Attention must be taken to follow manufacturers' tips for safe handling of solvents.
